Lucky Seven

As I walked down the front walk this morning to pick up the newspaper, I remembered that it was 7 years ago today that I bought the house.  It has been a memorable 7 years, with the girls coming into my life about half way through that 7 year period.  The house is in a lot better shape than it was 7 years ago, am I.  It has two owners now and not just one, and happily, the second owner will be home two weeks from today with our beautiful daughter.

I really did buy my Kindle II at just the right time or I would have missed the opportunity entirely.  I saw in the newspaper this morning that Amazon has released two new versions of Kindle, with one of them selling for just $139.  That is down in the Christmas gift range now, it seems to me, and I bet they sell a ton of that version.  Kindle has already resulted in more people buying more books.  I wonder if it can help bring kids into the mix and make reading more popular with them.  It sure will make their lives easier if they can carry all of their heavy textbooks on the little lightweight Kindle.

When our newspaper subscription expires in a few months I won't renew it.  At least not home delivery of a hard copy.  I will subscribe to it on Kindle at a fraction of the price that we pay for the home delivery version.  I only read the front page section and the business section anyway, and skim the local news section.  I don't read the sports section or all the things they stuff inside the newspaper such as store ads and promotions.  This will substantially reduce the amount of paper that we throw away every week and save a few more trees.

Some day, these leather bound classic books that I have might be dinosaurs.
