Facing the Family

Ping dropped in on the birthday party of one of her Chinese girlfriends last evening.  She came home glowing with pride.  My friends were talking about you, she told me.  They cannot believe how well you treat our daughter, so they were telling others at the party about you.

I know that part of their knowledge and impressions comes from first hand observation, but I suspect part of it comes from Ping as well.  She is always proud of the relationship that Cici and I have, so she tells her friends about it.  Ping didn't use the word last night, but I know she was happy because she had been given "face" with her friends.

I watched how Ping took the final version of our immigration practice video and immediately sent it to family and friends, in China and in the U.S.  She was almost skipping through the office to get this done.  We shot the video for the law firm, but for Ping it is very personal.  It allows her to show, and not just tell, people about our family.

Last night I showed Ping that the video is already on You Tube, readily accessible by people everywhere.  We don't even have it loaded on our law firm website yet, though I did post it on our book's website.

It isn't unusual now for us to receive calls at the office and the caller asks if we have someone who can speak Chinese.  It also isn't unusual for Ping to turn that call into several new clients for the law firm because she knows instinctively to ask about issues that the caller hadn't even thought about.  If they don't need help with those other issues, they typically have a friend who does need that kind of help.  They are so pleased to be talking with Ping that they don't hesitate to recommend us and put Ping in contact with their friends.

Our summer intern has been amazed watching how Ping does this.  Ping is quite a rainmaker, isn't she?  The intern commented.  Yes, she certainly is, but she is more than that.  In many ways, she has become the face of the law firm.
