Looking South at Greenland

I have been using the tracking tool on Continental Airlines to track the flight status of today's flight to Hong Kong from Newark.  The flight path takes the plane almost due north until it is higher on the globe than Greenland.  Only then does the flight path turn East.  It passes North of Greenland and a large Island I never heard of, called Spitzbergen, and another one called Franz Josef Land.  Europe is well to the south of the flight path.  When the plane reaches the Arctic Ocean, up over Siberia, it turns south and crosses Russia and Mongolia and a lot of China before landing in Hong Kong.  At least that is what it looks like on a flat map.  I haven't flown that route to China.

Last chance to go the supermarket with me, I told Cici a short while ago.  She followed me through the kitchen, full of excitement about her trip, and grabbed me from behind.  Wait, she told me.  I will go with you.  We have spent a lot of time together in this vehicle, I told Cici as we drove to the store.  I did a quick mental calculation and concluded that we have spent roughly a month of her time in America driving down the road together.  We were both surprised, but the calculation is pretty easy to make.  We believe that on average we spend an hour a day driving together.  That is 1/24th of a day.  She has been here 24 months, so 1/24th of our time would be one month.

But if we added up the time we have spent together studying, the number would be far greater than one month.  At least 3-4 months would probably be about right.  Add about a month for the time we spent eating together, and it is no wonder that we have gotten to know each other rather well.  You came with me to the store because you will miss shopping at the store, didn't you, I teased her.  No, she laughed, I came with you to be sure you didn't buy things that are not good for you to eat.  I have my own personal warden.

I sure will miss her.
