Common Language Studies

I listened to Cici and her Vietnamese classmate studying for their chemistry final exam yesterday.  Because English is their common language, they were forced to work on their English skills at the same time they studied chemistry.  Ping and I took them to lunch and we learned that there are similarities between Vietnamese words and Chinese words, especially Cantonese Chinese.

The Vietnamese girl was Cici's debate partner earlier in the week.  I told them that I also have a debate coming up soon, though it is called "oral argument" rather than being called a debate.  It will be at the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals.  I tried but couldn't talk Cici into going with me for oral argument instead of leaving for China on June 1.  She is, as we used to say when counting down the days, a one digit midget now.

But first Cici has one last event with the band after final exams this week.  The band will play at graduation on Saturday afternoon.

And then the packing will begin.  The two new pink suitcases will undoubtedly bulge with all the gifts that Cici is taking with her.  She has been buying gifts for at least a year.  If her bags are too full, maybe she can talk Ping into taking a few of the gifts in her bags.

Summertime is upon us.  We have a happy little girl.
