A Play by Any Other Name

After 12 hours at the office yesterday I walked in the house to find Cici up to her ears in homework.  Papa, she said, the English teacher assigned another book for us to read and we are a week away from final exams.  How can I read a book that quickly?  I also have two new projects to complete for geometry, Papa.  Can you help me choose which projects to work on?  And look, here is a fact sheet about the book that I have to study in addition to reading the book.  And I have to complete this homework sheet about the book, which I haven't even read yet.  It is due tomorrow, she lamented.  Plus I have to work on my journal for English.

I had a rather important project that I needed to complete as well, but I didn't tell Cici about it.  Instead I decided to multitask with her, so we went to our home office to work together.  The book is Thornton Wilder's play called Our Town, so it is not difficult to read.  You read the first Act, I suggested, while I review your work sheet and the two projects.  Your worksheet only covers Act I.  While she read, I was able to fairly quickly find what she needed, and started researching and reviewing my own project.  We worked in tandem through the evening and got the English paper and my project completed.

When I headed to bed Cici called to ask me if I was going to sleep.  Yes, unless you need more help, I told her.  You will have some surprises waiting for you tomorrow morning, she said with a smile.  You mean I will have more papers to review?  I asked.  Yes, I will email them to you, Papa.

Sure enough, I found an email from Cici this morning with three attachments.  An research paper about a pantograph, an essay about Lewis Carroll, and another page of her ongoing journal project for English.  I have seen a pantograph, but I didn't know what it was called.  Now I know, courtesy of a little Chinese girl.

Meanwhile Ping was a bit under the weather.  The allergies have really hit her hard this year.  She was asleep on Cici's bed when I got home, with Cici working away at her desk near the foot of the bed.  She had accomplished her mission for the day, though. I found Cici's passport and my passport on my desk with visas inside, which made Cici very happy, especially since she has a multiple entry visa.  She has plans to make a day trip to Hong Kong with some of her former classmates, so she will need that multiple entry visa.  They gave me a 90 day visa, Cici told me.  They only gave you a 60 day visa.  That is because you needed a 90 day visa to cover your trip, I pointed out.  I think I only asked for a 30 day visa because if I am able to go I will only be there for just over a week.

This is Our Town.
