Sunshine and Jumpsuits

After our more or less customary stop for a Saturday lunch of Vietnamese noodle soup, the girls decided to go to Marshalls.  I wanted to stick around the house to read and see whether Super Saver could win the second leg of the triple crown.

The girls are always very excited when they return from Marshalls.  They always come in with one article at a time to show their new prizes to me.  Yesterday Cici told me that she got something that was all one piece.  She didn't know what to call it, but she said she really liked it.  Let me put it on and show you, she said.  A few minutes later she walked into our home office wearing a black jumpsuit that made her look very tall and very slender.  I told her how she looked and she smiled and nodded in agreement.  This is so nice that you could wear it when you play with your concert band, I suggested.  They have to wear all black for concert band.  They have only one concert left this school year, and that is for graduation.  I will wear this for that concert, Cici agreed, now even more excited to have found the jumpsuit.

Ping had scored a Ralph Lauren outfit but she was more excited about a large black circle with a sunshine in the middle.  She enlisted my help to fasten it to the wrought iron gate in front of our front door, and then stood back to admire it for a while.  It also looks like it is made of wrought iron, but it is lightweight, so it must be made of some other material.

Then about 8:45 last night Cici came running into our home office calling for Papa.  We need to go back to Marshalls, she said.  These shoes are too small.  She showed me a pair of black sandals.  If we hurry I can exchange them tonight before they close at 9:30, she said.  I closed the book I was reading and off we went.  I stood in the exchange line with the shoes while Cici ran to get the next larger size.  There was no need to hurry.  The lady who was working the exchange line must have been trained by the Post Office.  She was unbelievably slow.  Fortunately, because it was almost closing time, another lady came to help at a nearby register and she was very fast.

I wouldn't be surprised if that jumpsuit and those shoes make it to China this summer.  Ping's sunshine, on the other hand, is likely to be hanging just where it is for years to come.
