Late Night Crew

When I got up this morning I had an email from each of my girls.

Cici's email arrived at midnight.  She had completed two of the three papers that she must write on the renaissance period for her history class.  The papers are due on Friday.  Papa, can you review these papers and send them back to me before we leave for school tomorrow morning?  Time was tight but I got it done.

Ping's email arrived at 2:09 a.m.  She had just completed her work on the client file that I took home for her, and she was sending the completed immigration forms to me.  She also left a sticky note on the kitchen door to remind me to take the vegetables out of the refrigerator and bring them to the office.

Don't you want to go to bed, I asked Cici at 10:00 last night?  She was working on the first of the two articles about the renaissance period.  Not now, she told me.  This is the time of night that I get very "exciting."  She meant excited, or more accurately, energetic.  I am brain dead at this hour, I told her.  I don't know how you and Mama can work so late at night.

But this is how my two little chickens work.  I have learned to live with it.

Ping will be tired but happy when she arrives at the office because one of our clients in China just had a successful fiancee visa interview.  Ping sat on the bed next to me late last night worrying about this lady's interview.  We really should charge more for our services, she told me.  It takes so much work, especially for a client in China.  I know she is right, because we put a lot of effort into our cases, but I just don't feel right about increasing our rates.
