And Then There Was One
First Ping was taken out by the high pollen count we had this week, and then I went down as well. We both bounced back today, but we had a rough few days and nights. Cici was the only one to be unaffected.
Since my mind was too foggy to think clearly, I used some of the time to research my ancestry in more detail. I found photos taken a long time ago of some of my ancestors. One photo was of my great great grandfather, taken during the civil war. He looked pretty tough to me. He is my ancestor who broke away from Pennsylvania where my ancestors had settled. He came to Texas. Ironically, his son, my great grandfather, moved on to Oregon some years later where he started a second family. He left my grandfather and his 3 young siblings behind with their mother, who married a man with 3 kids of his own.
I found a five generation photograph with my young grandfather holding his first born son and standing next to his mother and grandmother and great grandmother. Those were some rugged looking women. No wonder my great grandfather decided to escape to Oregon.
He didn't show up anywhere in the 1910 census, but by 1920 he was in Oregon with another wife and a four year old daughter. He was still there in 1930, where he died a few years later.
The girls tease me about spending time doing this research, but it is like putting a puzzle with missing pieces together. Some of those pieces will fall into place when the 1940 census is released in 2012. And 72 years from now the 2010 census will be released, where our descendants can find our names on the census as a family. I wonder how this happened, they might wonder. I am trying to leave a bit of a trail for them to follow.
