Prime Time

On Saturday afternoon we took Cici to the public library to check out some books for one of her classes.  The library branch that we went to shares a parking lot with a well known restaurant called Beck's Prime.  They have more than one location, but this one is my favorite.

It was lunch time when we arrived at the library so we talked about where to eat lunch.  The girls were of one mind: Vietnamese noodle soup.  I love that soup too, but I had something else in mind.  The library wouldn't be opening for another 15 minutes so I suggested we take a walk toward Beck's Prime.  As we walked, the smell of its char broiled burgers hit our noses.  Suddenly the girls abandoned their idea of eating Vietnamese noodle soup.

It was a beautiful day, and the girls saw that the restaurant has a large wooden deck that meanders about under some huge old trees with limbs so long and heavy that special supports have been built to hold them up.  The largest of the trees has a sign that says it is over 400 years old.  Think about that, I told the girls.  This tree was here long before our nation was formed.  It was here when American Indian tribes roamed the land.

Let's eat outside, the girls said.  So we ordered our food and sat outside to wait for it.  Cici had her camera with her so we took some family photos under the tree.  When the food was ready the girls were astounded by the size of their burgers.  They should have been; one burger would have easily fed the three of us.  The fries look old, Ping said.  No, I told her, these are the freshest fries you will ever eat.  They make them by hand here with fresh potatoes and fry them up immediately.  We ate all of them, washing them down with home made lemonade.

Can we come here in the evenings, Ping wanted to know?  Sure, it is open until 10:00 during the week and 11:00 on weekends, I told her.  So maybe on days when the mosquitoes are not going crazy, we will spend some evenings sitting outside in this comfortable place.  The girls found a Western restaurant that they love.

Glad to read that the ladies like a good burger! Perhaps not as upscale as Becks Prime, and more of a chain is Five Guys( http://www.fiveguys.com/home.aspx ), which is a similar sounding type of operation. Tasty too!

I have never tried one of those places, but there is one near our home and near Costco so it would be easy to stop in and try their food.  The food may be great but the ambiance won't be the same as sitting under those great big old trees.
