Feeling Like a Lame Duck

It feels like we are in a holding pattern with school.  There is nothing we can do right now, except that Cici can practice more for her audition.  The second audition is still two weeks away, and even after the audition the final decisions will not be mailed out until March 26, so we are talking about another six weeks of not knowing where Cici will go to school next year.

Even as we wait to see where Cici will finish high school, we continue to plan ahead for college.  I bought a book that contains essential information about the 371 best colleges in America.  The book even breaks it down for us, such as telling us the top colleges for accounting majors.  That knocks the number of schools down to a more manageable number if we accept that recommendation.  Two of Cici's top picks for college are on that list:  the University of Texas and Texas A & M.

But there is a dark horse candidate that appeared on the recently released list of top accounting programs in the nation.  The accounting program at the Sam Walton College of Business at my alma mater is ranked number 9 for colleges of its size.  There are three groups based on size, with UT and A&M being in the group of larger colleges.  Both of them appear on the list, which is further confirmation about them being good choices for Cici to pursue an accounting degree.  If Cici can't get into one of those two schools, I am confident she can get into my alma mater, and that business school is awash in cash to continue improving its programs.  Then if she wants a degree from UT or A&M she can transfer to them after a year or two of college.

Now wouldn't that be ironic.  If Cici were to attend my alma mater, she would be within easy walking distance of my boyhood home.  If she were to attend college there she would have the four seasons each year that she loves, including snow in the winter time.  The school also has a study abroad program set up with the University of Beijing, which wouldn't be a bad idea for Cici to do for a semester or two in my estimation.  Not only that, but every year at my alma mater would be the year of the pig.
