Unsettled Heart
I guess I am doing something right. Ping told me yesterday that some of her Chinese girlfriends have been talking about me and about our family. One of them told Ping that she knows her husband loves her, but he doesn't treat her and her child the way I treat Ping and Cici. Every time I go home after being with your family I have an unsettled heart, she told Ping. I wish my husband accepted my child the way Lee loves Cici, and I wish he treated me with respect the way Lee treats you.
Ah but the things I have to do to earn those accolades. Last night I was working on a homework assignment with Cici. I thought we were done with homework but Cici called me back. We have to write some limericks, Papa, she told me. She had already written two, but needed three, and wasn't happy with the two she had written. With minor suggestions and changes she was happy with the first two. They were even humorous the way a limerick should be. The third one we wrote from scratch. She called it "Jammin."
When I study for final exams
I plan to wear my best pa'jams
I hope my Papa helps
If not he may hear yelps
Because, you see, I am in a jam
The rules for a limerick are a rhyming pattern of aabba, with the "a" lines having eight or nine syllables and the "b" lines having six syllables.
See, I told Cici when we finished. You can't go away for college. You need to live at home and go to college in Houston so I can help you with limericks.
