Somebody saved my bacon this evening.
I wanted to get a fiancee visa petition out the door tomorrow after the client comes by to sign the papers. This is a case where I stepped in at the last minute to review and revise documents that the client has prepared and intended to file. At the last minute, he made a smart decision and decided to have a lawyer look at them. We had to obtain a translated birth certificate and passport photos from his fiancee. The documents were fine when they arrived, but the passport photos were much too large.
Sweetie, I said to Cici, do you have time to help me resize these photos? I don't have photoshop on my computer, she told me. Can you do it using the Microsoft application for pictures, I asked? I have never tried that, she told me, but she went to work on it. Ten minutes later I had four 2 x 2 passport photos in hand. You are brilliant, I told Cici.
Meanwhile, Ping was cooking some delicious hotpot. We had been a bit distracted earlier in the evening because one of our refrigerators decided to stop working yesterday. It turned out to be the compressor, so I wrote it off. They just don't build them like they used to. There was a time when you could expect a refrigerator to last for twenty years or more with no maintenance. This one only lasted for 6.5 years. We gave it away and moved the one from the garage into the kitchen.
Don't buy a new one, Ping said. We don't need two refrigerators. I think she is correct, but only because we still have two refrigerators. She keeps the one at the office full of food too, and usually cooks for me in the afternoon so there is no need to cook when we get home.
Well, at least we have some extra room in the garage now.
