Now That is a Surprise

Ping just served some of her famous salmon for lunch, along with some Chinese vegetables and a large container of beans and brown rice.  She found some roughly pint sized plastic containers with screw-on tops that don't leak if they are turned on their side, and that is how the bean soup travels to the office and sits in the refrigerator.  The brown rice comes in its own large container, and it is added to a container of bean soup before it is heated for serving.

While serving lunch Ping told me that Cici asked if we could purchase a waffle maker.  She had a sample waffle at Costco and loved it.  I told her no, Ping said, we don't need a waffle maker.  If Cici asks you about it, you can also tell her that we don't need one.  But if you think it is a good idea, we can buy a waffle maker and surprise Cici with it on Valentine's Day.

What?  You girls told me that this is the family of no surprises.  Now you want to conspire with me to surprise Cici?  This is the best kind of surprise, I told Ping.  We know it is something that will make her happy, and it will be a complete surprise for her.

But, will this go the way of all attempted surprises in our family?  I can just see Ping starting to drop hints to Cici that something is coming for Valentine's Day.  Cici will begin guessing and Ping will give bigger and bigger hints until suddenly Cici "guesses" the surprise.  I have seen this happen time and again.  Each of the girls is guilty of leaking a surprise this way, then feigning surprise that the secret was guessed.

Maybe the real surprise will have to be some waffle mix.
