Git'er Done

Two final exams tomorrow, one more on Tuesday, day off on Wednesday, start 2d semester Thursday -- with no art class.  Instead, Cici will practice with her flute during the art class period and get credit for band.  She will participate in all the concert band activities and go on the band tour to Chicago.  This schedule also allows her to finish history this school year.  It was her flute playing skills that did it.  The band director didn't want to lose her, so he negotiated the whole deal for us at the school.

I had back to back days at the office this weekend where I was working in 50 degree temperatures at 6:30 a.m.  We get the afternoon sun and not the morning sun through our office windows, so the office didn't warm up until after mid-day.  I still managed to get a lot of work done, even meeting with and signing up three new clients.  Ping called me home this afternoon to eat some hot pot that she prepared.  That helped warm me up.  Then Cici and I slipped over to Starbucks for a frappuccino mocha that we shared.

Last night I asked the girls if they wanted to brave the cold air and go to dinner at a Japanese restaurant.  They were a bit skeptical but they agreed to try it.  They were glad we went because they had the sushi that both of them love to eat.  I also introduced them to a dish that I learned to love while I was living in Japan for a year.  Katsu don.  This is a pork cutlet with fried egg on top, all sitting on top of white rice and a few vegetables like green peas, served in a bowl.  It turned out that they also like this dish very much.

We also had Japanese fried rice Kobe style, plus tempura shrimp, tempura fish, and tempura vegetables.  That sounds like a lot of food.  It was.  We ate it all anyway.  Cici asked me again about coming to China with them this summer, but she knows how busy things are at the office.  She has been adjusting her summer schedule because of this.  Instead of leaving at the end of May when school is finished, she wants to stay until after my birthday in June.  Last night she and Ping were also talking about Cici staying another week until after our anniversary on June 19.  I didn't have the heart to tell her that the next day, June 20, is father's day.  I know she would delay still another day if I mentioned it, but we can celebrate father's day early.

The plan is for Cici to fly to Hong Kong alone, then take the bus to Guangzhou.  Ping will follow about a month later, and they will return together in August.  I am already missing them.

It's good to see that her school schedule was able to be worked out, and she can take the music tour.

Smitty, she keeps asking me if it will still be cold in Chicago in March.  I printed out the average temperatures for March for her, as well as the average snowfall in March, for Chicago.  Now she will bundle up for the trip.
