Jump Starting the Decade

Awake at 3:00 a.m., up at 4:00, in the office just past 4:30, working non-stop for three hours.  I feel like I got a good start on the New Year and the new decade.  This may be my last decade of practicing law full time, so there is a lot of work to complete.

Now it is time to eat some brown rice and beans for breakfast.  I think I can squeeze in a few more hours of work before Ping expects me back home for lunch with friends.  She worked until 2:00 this morning preparing Chinese dumplings and other food while Cici did the laundry.  I felt like a slacker when I went to bed with the girls still working, but maybe I made up for it this morning.

It was hard to give up that Certificate of Citizenship, but we had to send it with the application for Cici's passport this week. I wasn't thinking or we would have gone to get Cici's Texas ID card before we sent the Certificate of Citizenship in for the passport.  Now she is without a photo ID except her Chinese passport, which is no longer valid since she is a U.S. citizen.  Despite the warning on the certificate to not make copies, however, I made copies just in case we need something to prove Cici's citizenship while we are waiting for her passport and the return of the original certificate.

We have a busy month ahead.  Cici has final exams and is planning to audition for the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.  We will close on the refinancing of our home -- I never expected to see the day when mortgage rates would be available at just over 4% fixed on a 15 year loan.  The appraisal on our home came in at $20,000 more than I thought the fair market value would be, which is hard to believe, considering how appraisals are being lowballed because many lenders are reluctant to loan money.

We are also almost ready to launch the new website for our joint venture with another law firm to handle personal injury cases.  No wonder I am working on New Year's Day.
