How Wreath It Is
For six Christmases after I bought our home, I wanted to put a wreath on the front door. We have double front doors, though, so I thought it wouldn't look so good, being off center. Last year, Ping hung two large bells on the lamp in our front yard, and she did the same thing on the light in the back of our house. This year, without mentioning it to me, she bought a wreath and solved the off-center problem at the front door. She hung it on the wrought iron gate to the enclosed area at our front door. The gate is centered on the front doors of the house. This is a perfectly logical solution; why didn't I think of that?
Ping also dug out the Christmas lights that look like nets, and hung them on the hedge beside the walk that comes from the street to the gated area at our front door. At this point, it sounds like she is really into Christmas, right? Not so fast. She and Cici have no intention of putting up a tree. Gifts don't remain surprises long enough to get wrapped and put under a tree, so there is no real need for a tree, they said.
But the stockings stay hung over the fireplace year round. All we want for Christmas can be put in the stockings, the girls told me. Gift cards from Marshalls. Throw in some lottery tickets and some scratch off lottery tickets and the girls are happy, even without packages under the tree. But of course they are already using the gifts that would have been gift wrapped and put under the tree.
This is the way they like to celebrate Christmas.
