Two Minute Warning

It is easier than herding cats, but what do I know about herding cats.  I know a lot, however, about getting these girls out of bed and making it to school on time.  At the same time, there is Cici's little Vietnamese classmate who rides with us, and getting her to school on time also requires some vigilance.

Recently I have been giving countdown notices.  We are leaving in ten minutes, Sweetie.  Five more minutes, Sweetie.  Two minutes and we are leaving, Sweetie.  It becomes more and more difficult as we reach the end of marching band season, and the football team has let us down two years running.  Last year the team had its best year ever, losing only two games, and advancing to the playoffs.  This year it beat that record, losing only one game, so here we are in the playoffs again.

Playoff games mean more marching band practice, which means more early mornings at school.  Last night neither Ping nor Cici set their alarms, so we made it to school on time this morning only because I woke up early even without the alarms.  But I learned yesterday that Cici's little band didn't just make Division I in its marching band competition a couple of weeks ago; they brought home four large trophies to show that they captured first place in those categories.

Someone else needs a wake up call.  It has been almost five and a half months and we still have no word from USCIS about Cici's Certificate of Citizenship.  They updated their website last night to show that they are processing those types of applications within their five month goal.  The website gives a phone number to call if your case has been pending longer than five months, so I will call them this morning.  I should have filed simultaneously for Cici's U.S. Passport.  We could have used it to get her Texas photo ID and her social security number.

It is hard to believe, but in less than 11 months we must file to remove conditions on Ping's green card.  At least the process will be completed for Cici once we have her Certificate of Citizenship and her U.S. passport in hand.  Well, that and getting her Texas photo ID and her social security number.  Oh but then after that we have to start focusing on SAT tests and college applications.  Maybe the process never ends.
