I Know Abraham
Cici surprised me with her knowledge of the Bible yesterday. We were talking about Abraham Solomon and I told her that Abraham and Solomon are both Jewish names from the Bible. Oh, I know Abraham, she told me. He had a son named Isaac, and Isaac had two sons, Jacob and Esau. Jacob had many sons including Joseph. She proceeded to rattle off the story as though she had heard it all her life. I was amazed at how much she has retained from her old testament theology class at school.
It sounded like the Lutherans might not teach about the twelve tribes of Israel. You must go back to class and stand up for the Jews, I teased Cici. Tell them that as a Solomon, you feel slighted. That ought to drive them crazy.
It is sad to say that she could reasonably expect to be treated better in America as a Jew than as a Chinese person.
The birthday girl hasn't been feeling well today, so I need to get her home to rest.
