Raindrops Bring Happiness
On days when Cici has marching band practice, the sound of rain on the roof brings a smile to her face. This morning there are lots of raindrops, and there is apparently a 100% chance of rain all day. So through the cracks in her eyes Cici asked me the logical question this morning. Why do we have to go so early when it is raining and the band can't practice? Because we don't have the discretion to decide when rain means rain, I told her. Just be happy that you don't have to stand outside doing the endless drills for the marching band competition that is coming up at the end of the month.
But the flowers and trees are happy with the rain. Maybe the birds and squirrels are happy too, but they are hiding so we don't know how they feel. Ping is happy because she will go back to bed and sleep for a while longer listening to the rain before driving to the office. Maybe my car will be happy in the rain; it will be the closest it has come to being washed in a while.
Long before the girls came to America, Ping and I stood one night gazing across the river that flows near where Cici attended middle school. There was a light mist falling, but our happiness from being together was not reduced one bit by the rain. It was a time of celebration then, and it brings back great memories now.
