Stolen Right Out of Our Cart
A couple of weeks ago Ping and I were shopping at Marshall's. She loves to look at the shoes and I pass the time in the home department. It is a flagship store, so they have quite a few things on the shelves. We look for hidden treasure, and occasionally we find it. We put a couple of things in our cart and kept looking for other things. Someone walked past our cart and liked what we had selected and took it with them. We couldn't believe it. We hadn't paid for it yet, bet we still felt ripped off.
We were back in the same store this past weekend. Ping found something that we really liked. She put it in our cart with the other things. This time we stayed close to our cart. We only looked away for a few seconds and it happened again. Someone stole the thing we liked best right out of our cart. Cici was with us and the three of us went looking for the thief without success. I went up to watch the carts of everyone who was in the long checkout line and didn't see it there either.
Whoever is taking these things seems to like Ping's taste in decorating. I am thinking about setting a trap and watching to see if it will happen again. This isn't giving Ping and Cici a very good impression of America. Maybe we should stop hanging out in the low dollar stores.

Yeah, good luck with that one, I can see you trying to convince a couple of Chinese ladies to only go to high dollar stores. Maybe you should make your next book a fantasy.
My wife thinks JC Penney is too upscale, since it is right next to a Ross Dress For Less. The second day she was in country we scored a $20 Hampton Forge cleaver for $8. My Fabreware knives languish in a drawer, as that is the only "knife" she will use. The only way to stay out of low dollar stores is to never let your Chinese ladies learn of their existence.
Too late now, pal

I think you are right, Craig. This Marshall's has become the favorite store of the girls. They don't care much for Macy's. I haven't even bothered to take them to the Galleria to shop because I know we would just end up walking and looking. Come to think of it, I guess that isn't all bad.

Scandalous!
Maybe for your trap, you might want to consider one of those laptop alarms that start making noise, loud noise, when disturbed? Set it and put it carefully into the cart and step away...
Maybe something like this:
