Hungry and Ice Cream are Two Different Things

I learned something new today from Cici.

Ping and I asked her if she wanted to eat something.  She responded that she wasn't hungry.  At the same time, she was putting ice cream into a bowl.  I asked what I thought was a logical question.  If you aren't hungry, why are you putting ice cream in that bowl to eat?  Papa, she explained, hungry and ice cream are two different things.  I guess I should have known.

I was at the office early this morning, around 6:30 or so, and got a lot of work done before coming home around midday.  Let's go eat noodles, I suggested to Ping.  Cici is still sleeping, Ping told me.  You should wake her.  Cicia, I called as I walked into her room.  She didn't move.  I called her several more times and there was still no movement, so Ping got involved.  Wake up, Cici, she said as she rocked her body back and forth on the bed.  We got some eye flutter, then they opened slightly.  Do you want to eat noodles or stay home and sleep?  I asked.  I will stay home, Cici replied as she snuggled deeper under the covers, pulling her favorite stuffed bear with her.

Mama, let's go eat at Tokyo One since Cici is staying home, I suggested loudly.  Yes, let's go to Tokyo One, Ping replied.  She knew my ploy.  The next thing we knew, Cici was out of bed and in her bathroom getting ready to go with us.  Just the thought of Tokyo One was enough to spring her into action.  We ended up eating noodles because Ping wants to eat at Tokyo One for her birthday in a couple of weeks, but Cici seemed happy to be spending time with us.

Papa, you can't go there, Cici told me as she locked her arm firmly in my arm.  We were nearing my favorite art gallery and Cici was taking preemptive action.  Ping was walking beside me on the other side, laughing at how our daughter controls me.  The owners of the art gallery saw us and waved, welcoming us to come inside.  My daughter won't let me come inside today, I called to them.  They were disappointed but they laughed, because they have seen this scenario previously.

Sometimes Ping and I team up against Cici, like when we were waking her up.  Sometimes the girls team up against me, like with the art gallery.  And sometimes Cici and I team up against Ping, like today when we wanted to get some kettle cooked jalapeno chips.  Ping was driving and wouldn't stop at the grocery store, telling us we could get the chips tomorrow.  But we need them today, we insisted.  She wasn't to be persuaded so we parked in the garage and unloaded our purchases.  Then I grabbed the keys to the Pilot and Cici hopped in with me.  See you next year, we called to Ping as we backed out of the garage.  Ping took it in good humor, and Cici and I were back a short time later with success in our hands.

Sometimes you just have to take a stand.
