Friday Night Bites
These Texas mosquitoes and other pesky flying insects just love Chinese food. The girls have marks on their arms and legs to prove it. Cici is particularly vulnerable during marching band practice and especially during the Friday night football games. Something bit her twice on her hand Friday night and her hand was swollen when she came home. By Saturday her hand was half again its normal size. I was convalescing so I didn't check it as closely as I usually would have; I just kept asking her if she was putting benadryl on her hand and she kept saying yes, but the swelling had gotten no better.
Initially Cici kept calling these mosquito bites, but on closer questioning she said it was larger than a mosquito and had white tips on its wings. I don't know what these things are called, but the two marks on her hand looked more like stings to me. And from the swelling, it looked like poison had been injected. Maybe it was a sweat bee or something like that. Whatever it was, she was allergic to it.
Yesterday when I was feeling better, Cici's hand was still swollen badly so I asked her to show me what she had been putting on her hand. It was Tiger Balm. Cici, I explained, this is for sore muscles, not for allergic reactions to insect bites. I took her to the pantry and we got the benadryl gel. I rubbed it into her hand. We can do this up to four times a day, I told her. A couple of hours later I checked on her. Her hand was almost back to its normal size. At least she responds well to the medication.
Ping had sore muscles from the office move so she went to the gym last night to soak in the large hot pool with big jets. She had also been on her feet in the kitchen cooking for a good part of the day, preparing food for lunches and dinners for the week. She was back shortly after leaving, disappointed to learn that the club is closed on Sunday nights.
It is time to wake these girls and find our how their swollen and aching bodies are doing this morning. If I walk carefully, I think I might be able to hobble to Cici's room without my crutches.

You might want to up the garlic intake. It tends to act as a repellant to blood suckers. You can also plant it to have it work in the yard to keep those types of bugs out of the area.
On an unrelated note - I seem to be having an issue with the security code being wrong when I try to submit my rambling. I know the code is exactly what the image shows, but many times I get told it's not the right code.

I don't know how much more garlic these girls can eat, Smitty. Ping uses a lot of it. One side dish that she makes (and I am talking about a good sized bowl) is nothing but whole garlic pods mixed with a little onion and something like vinegar. I have garlic pills, but I don't know if they would be as effective as fresh garlic.
I was unaware of the security code requirements since I don't post in the way visitors post, but I hate those things. It is very frustrating to see some fuzzy letter or number that is so obscured that you can't really know what it is. Even with that security, there have been a few spam messages that have slipped through. I will pass along the issue to Go Daddy, and thanks for mentioning it.

I think there must be something about Texas bugs. I know one time when the ex went back to see her family, she called me from the Dallas airport not to let me know that she had arrived safely, but that she had already been bitten by some bugs!
I have to agree with your assessment of these security code deals. For the website that the organizers of my classes reunions have, they use a forum program that uses those security codes, but there is a bug where it doesn't display the code!
