Sleeping Beauties

Each morning as our car eases through the pre-dawn darkness, the two teenage girls in the back seat and Ping in the front passenger seat close their eyes.  They have perfected the twenty minute nap.  Most days on the drive home, the teenage girls take another nap.  These are serious naps; I have to wake the girls again when we arrive at school and when we arrive home.  This is their way of dealing with sleep deprivation from studying so late each night.

Ping and I were walking tall at report card night on Wednesday.  We saw another "Model Student" comment about Cici on her report card.  This time it was the geometry teacher.  She knows all the answers, he told us.  I had to ask her not to say them aloud in class because the rest of the class is still struggling.  The algebra 2 teacher was also laudatory about Cici's abilities in her class.

The chemistry teacher also had a lot of good things to say about her.  He said that he was working a math problem in class one day with one of the really good students in the class.  He said that he has always been strong in math, but Cici worked on the same problem with one of the slow students in the class and had the correct answer before he and the good student could solve it.

All of her teachers expressed admiration and praise for Cici's work and behavior in their classes.  She is making quite a name for herself.  Last night, for the first time since school started, Cici had no homework.  She was so tired that I was able to talk her into going to sleep at 9:00.  I only had to wake her one time this morning instead of the usual three times before she gets out of bed.

This is supposed to be moving day but they are still installing the last of the carpet and touching up the paint in the new space.  The man who installs and connects the phone lines in this building has also not made an appearance yet, so there are no phone, fax, or dsl lines in place.  The reception area looks nice though, with its Brazilian cherry wood floor.  If they can solve the phone line problems soon, they can still get us moved later today.  I am not holding my breath.
