Angela T

Papa, I sent the history paper to you.  Can you check it for me and print it this morning?  This is the note that was on a yellow sticky that was stuck to the top of my computer monitor this morning.

It is a good thing that Ping set the alarm last night because I didn't wake up this morning until it went off around 5:20.  Cici was loaded up with homework last night, so it was late when we went to bed.  It was already late when I thought we were finished.  There is one more thing I have to prepare, Cici told me.  I have to prepare a paper to summarize a chapter in history, like we did the paper on India last week.  This time, though, the chapter is about China.  I almost groaned, wishing we had those extra two and a half hours that she spent practicing with the jazz band after school.

It is late, I told her, so let's work together.  You choose the significant event or person and write that part of the paper.  You write definitions for all the key words.  I will write the 50-100 word summary because you already know about China.  You can check what I write and change it to say what you want to say.  It was still after mid-night when her head hit the pillow.  At 5:30 this morning I was proof reading her completed paper.  Confucius was the significant person she chose - not the leaders of the two dynasties that were discussed in the chapter.  She chose Confucianism over Daoism as the guiding principles for how a person should live their lives.

I learned something as Cici was answering questions in chemistry last night.  She kept using an abbreviation "sth," which I didn't recognize as meaning anything.  Everyone knows it means "something," she told me when I asked about it.  Really?  Is this text messaging language? I asked.  I checked on the Internet this morning and it turns out that she knew what she was talking about.

Well, I have an abbreviation of my own that I use often when I call Cici these days.  Angela T.  Ping has started using it too.  It is like our new pet name for Cici, and she seems to like it.

Angela T came to the living room last night after she had completed as much of her homework as possible without my help.  Mama, she said, you need to move so I can sit next to Papa.  Poor jibaobao, I told Ping.  You work so hard and this is the thanks you get.  No problem, she replied.  I can take a shower now.  Cici sat down beside me and began to read:  You have three balloons.  One is filled with neon, one with carbon dioxide, and one with hydrogen.  Using table 7.4, describe what will happen to each balloon when you release it.  How to do this, Papa?

Yes, we will miss these days when they are gone.

I never heard about it before either! I looked it up, and it's from IRC which is Internet Relay Chat, and SMS. So it's not proper English!

I'm sure you will miss these times also!
