Limited Time

When Cici heard me say last night that I would go to the office and work today, she showed immediate concern and grilled me about how long I intended to work.  It is a holiday, she said.  Her last words to me last night were instructions:  come home from the office early, Papa.

She has also joined Ping in resisting my idea about us driving both cars every day so I can stay later at the office to work on a daily basis.  You work too much, they tell me.  That is surprising to me, because in my eyes, they are the ones who work too much.  Ping never stops working.  Cici studies until very late each night.  The only thing I can figure is that they must be treating the time I spend helping Cici with her homework each day as "working" time for me.

Whatever the reason might be, the girls have put time limits on my working day, so I have to game the system by continuing my working day from our home office.  Fortunately, Cici's band practice has me in the office before 7:00 a.m. three days a week, and her regular school day has me in the office before 7:30 the other two days.  That gives me the jump on a lot of people, but I still need weekends and holidays to try to catch up.

And I am not the only one.  Ping was right there with me yesterday, working in Chinese with one of our clients in China, and bringing me into the conversation in English when she needed help on technical issues.  Then last night Cici asked me if she could come to the office with me today, but I told her it wouldn't be very comfortable because the air conditioning in the building won't be turned on today.  That will change when we move into our new space at the end of the month.  The second air conditioning system that we will have will work independently of the building's system, so we can have a/c 24/7.

In the meantime, I need to stop talking here and get some work done.

Lee, what you do at the office is work, what you do with Cici's homeWORK is work, what you must do it sounds to me is spend time with the girls without working, like a vacation together WITHOUT work, yeah I know, its hard to do but sooner or later Ping will insist on this so you might be better off doing this on your own.
    Good luck buddy.
