As It Should Be
As daylight begins to peek through the wooden blinds on the windows of our home, it is discovering that everything is once again as it should be. Cici is sleeping peacefully in her bedroom where Ping "wrapped" her to sleep last night, as she likes to say. Ping attacked the kitchen with a vengeance about 4:00 this morning. The sparkling clean decanter on the coffee maker sure serves up better tasting coffee.
First sweet potato, and then red bean, frozen Chinese pancakes were heated and served. They brought back fond memories of mornings past when I was first introduced to their delicate flavors.
I missed you so much, were the words I heard from Ping about 1:00 this morning when she wrapped me to sleep. Her happiness at being home has been very evident. She delighted Cici with the gifts she brought for her. I was treated to a little fashion show, with Cici floating through our home office, arm extended to show off her new purse. She also showed me her new watch, which she loves, and her new t-shirts which she also loves. Then there seemed to be a million little bottles of girl things like nail polish that the two of them were poring over.
Can you fix this for me, Papa? Cici had a hair ornament in hand. One of its delicate little bead-like pieces had come unattached. A little super glue with tweasers in hand and I was a hero.
We have recaptured our life, and Cici now seems amenable to shortening her visit to China next summer. Will I need a visa to go to China, Papa? Yes, you will travel with a U.S. passport and will need a visa. Do you think they will take everything out of my suitcases when I return? Maybe not, since you are a teenager. Yes, and I am also a U.S. citizen, so maybe they will treat me better.
But let's not think about that now. Let's just enjoy the moment.
