Anticipation
Cici, Mama should be on the bus on the way to the Hong Kong airport.
For our last meal, Cici and I shared some milk and cookies last night as we worked on her homework. In addition to the homework, she had to study for three quizzes today. Will you quiz me, Papa? Sure, adroit - what part of speech is it, what is the definition, use it in a sentence. Same thing with Repertoire, fugitive, keen, foibles, irrepressible, stark, and two other words that don't come to mind right now.
Cici, the plane that will bring Mama to America has landed in Hong Kong on schedule.
Work on Chemistry. Study the periodic table. Papa, we are supposed to buy a copy of the periodic table to put in our three ring binder. Here, Cici, you can use this copy of the periodic table until we buy a better one. Where did you get this, Papa? I printed it from the Internet. Wow, this is all I need. No, we can get a color coded table that is laminated and it will last for years.
Where is Mama now? Her plane is scheduled to leave Hong Kong in about an hour, Sweetie, so she should be at the departure gate.
Memorize the verse from the old testament. Papa, I did all my chemistry homework except two questions. I left them for you. Oh, so you left the easy ones for me? No, Papa, I left the hard ones for you! We can figure this out. Look, just break the string of symbols apart and check the periodic table and we can answer the questions. And we know which one has the most atoms by looking at the small numbers beside the letters.
Okay, Papa, you look sleepy. You should go to bed now and I will study for my quizzes some more. You can quiz me again tomorrow morning.
Morning. Raindrops on the skylights. Oh no, let it rain, but let it rain early this morning and not later in the day. We don't want any flight delays. Where is Ping now? I will want to tell Cici when I wake her to dress for school. Her flight left Hong Kong five minutes late and is scheduled to arrive in San Francisco three minutes late. Thank goodness. It also shows that it will depart San Francisco from the International terminal. That must mean that the same aircraft will continue on to Houston, and Ping won't have to change terminals to board the flight to Houston.
I wonder if the newspaper is getting wet outside? I better go get it. Should I get more coffee first? I need to straighten up the house some. Well, maybe not. We want Ping to know that we needed her here. She can't walk into a spotless home. We need to leave something for her to scold us about. I remember the time Andy hired the English butler to give Aunt Bea a break and she quickly felt unneeded and became despondent. We don't want Ping to feel that way. Or am I just making excuses and being lazy?
Those raindrops felt quite good. I wonder why I have not been bitten by a mosquito a single time going out to get the newspaper while Ping has been gone. Could it have something to do with this little tree in the planter that I put near the front door? Is there something about it that keeps the mosquitoes away from the front door? They were always buzzing around the front door before I put this plant here. I need to see what Ping thinks about this.
Oh this morning rain is good. It will have Ping's little garden looking happy when she sees it this evening. If her plane arrives on time we will be home while it is still daylight outside. I wonder if she will like the cover for the next edition of our book. I need to tell her about the two clients who asked for copies of the book yesterday - one from Venezuela and one from Mexico. But right now I better at least make sure the kitchen sink is cleared of the few dishes that Cici and I used yesterday.
Time to wake Cici for school and tell her that Mama is more than half way across the Pacific Ocean now. It's gonna be a good day, Tater.
