Back to those Mental Images

Right about now, Ping should be on her way or just arriving in Shenzhen.  When I wake Cici up this morning we will give Ping a call on her friend's cell phone in Shenzhen.  Ping's cell phone battery still has two bars, she told me, so she can call us when she lands in San Francisco tomorrow morning.  If it doesn't work, just ask someone if you can use their cell phone to call us, I suggested.  Someone will be happy to help if you explain your circumstances to them.

I talked Ping through the process of entering the country through San Francisco.  Her flight originates in Ho Chi Minh City, picks her up in Hong Kong, stops in San Francisco, and brings her to Houston.  The flight number is the same all the way.  Whether there is a change of aircraft in San Francisco is another story.  I checked on her flight yesterday and it made each leg right around the scheduled times.  So far today, it is also on schedule.  It is in Hong Kong right now, and is scheduled to depart on time.

Now for tomorrow, there are thunderstorms predicted in both Hong Kong and in Houston.  Like the two boys said just before the sheriff pulled them over and arrested them in My Cousin Vinny, there is nothing to worry about until there is something to worry about.  I have nevertheless tried to gather relevant information.  Ping's flight is scheduled to arrive at 4:48 p.m. tomorrow, but she won't have to clear customs and immigration in Houston, so Cici and I can see her that much sooner.

Right now I have the task of waking our daughter.  Am I really that difficult to wake up? She asked me last night.  Trust me, you are.  That is why Mama gave me this job, I told her.  She didn't even remember talking with Ping briefly on the phone yesterday morning shortly after I woke her.  It is tough on her to wake up at 5:30 a.m. three days a week during the school year.  I get up around 4:45 so I will have time for coffee and time to read the newspaper, but I am a morning person so I don't mind.

I better get to it.  This always takes a while.
