Just a Mental Image
When I called Ping last night she was out for a walk with the lady who takes care of Mama. They were exploring all the little stores and shops on a street near our new home and buying some food for Mama. I have a mental image of what it will be like when Ping and I go for a walk there, but that is all I will have for a while. We have too many things going on here that require my attention.
Ping on the other hand has only a mental image of the new office space that I have been looking at, but she will be back in ten days and can take a look at it for herself. I have a mental image of how the office space can look after Ping works her magic in designing and decorating it. It will be interesting to find out if she shares that mental image with me.
Cici has a mental image of more of the Korean noodles being in our kitchen. Papa, let's not forget to buy more of the noodles at Wal-Mart, she said to me last night. I thought you didn't like the Wal-Mart noodles, I replied. Oh, she laughed, I meant H-Mart. She chooses the packages of noodles based mainly on the pictures on the packages, since the writing is in Korean. There are some words in English, thought. On the front, one of the packages touted "No TransFats" in large letters. On the back, also written in English, I read the list of ingredients. They included partially hydrogenated oil - TransFats. Busted!
It is the first day of school and I woke Cici a few minutes ago. I only have to wake you for ten more days, I told her last night. Then Mama can wake you each day. She laughed, because she knows how difficult it is for me to wake her each morning. I think Mama will give the job of waking me back to you, she predicted. I know she is correct, so our little morning dance is likely to continue for a long time to come.

Lucky you, I am still trying to puzzle out the paperwork for getting my son into school. Fortunately, school doesn't start until after labor day here. We are still getting the hang of where to shop for food.

Good luck with school. We just finished our second day yesterday and Cici was buried in homework last night. I never studied chemistry before, but it is clear that I will learn it this school year.
We have still another shopping option opening near our home - just down the street from H-Mart, the Korean/Asian food market. A 99 Ranch Market is opening. Both of these stores are very near Costco, and only about 3 miles from our home, so it is quite convenient for us.

I just found out yesterday we have an H-mart in our neck of the woods. We were waiting in line, and a new checkout opened, so we were able to be served quicker. It turns out she was the sole Chinese person doing checkout, the rest were all Korean

You know, Craig, I don't think Ping and I appreciate enough how lucky we are when it comes to proximity to shopping. We pass within a few hundred yards of H-Mart every day when we drive to and from the office. The new 99 Ranch Market sits right beside the feeder road on our route home each day. The entrance to the Costco parking lot and adjacent stores also adjoins the feeder road on our route home. In fact, that is the exit we take each day. When we go to H-Mart or the new 99 Ranch we just take one exit sooner.
Of course, if we want to (and we often do), we can drive all the way to Chinatown to shop. It must be all of two and a half or three miles. We could walk to and from two Western supermarkets from our home. One of the best shopping malls in Houston is just three miles from our home, and what most people would probably call the best is just five miles from us. There is a new movie theater at the shopping mall closest to our home. Marshall's, where Ping loves to shop, is three miles from us. Target and Wal-Mart are less than three miles away.
So, I stopped at H-Mart on the way home from the office this morning. It felt good to be shopping for things that we will need when Ping gets home on Friday. When I cook I use garlic that is still the way it grew, for example, but Ping prefers the convenience of peeled cloves in containers, so I bought some for her. I also bought fresh ginger in anticipation of her cooking some of our favorite dishes. Have I mentioned that she will be home in 5 days?
