Marketing Strategies
I noticed that Bing searches brought people to the blog when they searched for "Best Part of the Pea," and "The Girls of China," which are titles to some of the posts on the blog. That gave me an idea. Perhaps I should write the title of each post in a way that would bring surprised (startled?) visitors to our little place on the web. Like the title to this post, for example. Oh how devious that would be, but it would probably be counterproductive.
We have a sparkling clean kitchen after Cici cleaned all of it this evening, including the floor. Maybe we shouldn't use the kitchen again until Mama comes home, I suggested. With a sly grin, Cici shook her head yes. But we already broke that little pact. Cici wanted some of the noodles that we bought at H-Mart, and I am steaming some corn on the cob. I guess "we" will have to clean the kitchen at least one more time before Ping comes home.
We go to H-Mart often because it has many fresh Chinese and other kinds of vegetables that Asian people love to eat. Cici told me tonight that one of her Korean classmates, who is also a member of the band, is now working part time at H-Mart. Now we have another reason to go to H-Mart. But we haven't bought a fish there since Ping left. I am looking forward to her cooking when she returns, and fresh fish is high on the list.
Ping told me yesterday that she will always work with me in the law firm and will prepare delicious lunches for me. Hmm, how will she do that, you ask? Well, the answer arrived just today. A larger office space opened up on the same floor but at the opposite end of our building. Among other things, it would double the size of Ping's office (the reception area), give us a large, full kitchen large enough that it includes a dining area, a larger file room, larger conference rooms, and most importantly a larger office for me.
We really need to do this anyway because as soon as Ping is back, our marketing campaign for our mediation and arbitration company will be launched. She and I have become more and more comfortable with the idea that she will always work with me in the law firm and in our company rather than trying to position herself for some different career in America. We think we make a pretty good team.
With the relationship that Ping is setting up for our law firm with the Chinese law firm that handled her former company's legal matters in China, she will be assuming yet another valuable role in our law firm. Is this a good place to tie the discussion to the title of this post?
When I picked Cici up after band practice today, I had a 64 ounce fountain drink waiting for her in the Pilot. I got a sprite with plenty of ice to melt and cut the strength of the soft drink. It was a good move - she was parched. Her legs and feet are very sore, she told me, from two long days of standing and marching. She will practice all day tomorrow, and then the band will perform for the parents tomorrow evening, followed by a potluck dinner.
Cici volunteered us to bring a main dish. What is a main dish, Papa? She asked as she handed me the sign up sheet. So we had a discussion about main dishes and side dishes and desserts. We also had a discussion about an easy way to deliver on her commitment. We will stop at a nearby Chinese buffet that has good food and assemble a couple of main dishes from the buffet.
The band members will have a swim party after the dinner, but Cici will want to come home with me I am sure. She isn't into the swimming and frisbee throwing that the other kids seem to enjoy. She enjoys other things. At the moment, she is sitting with me in our home office and laughing loudly at a Japanese movie that she is watching on her laptop. She loves to read books as well, especially when they are written in Chinese.
So two weeks from tomorrow we will have our beautiful Ping home again. Oh, and about that new office space - I scanned the floor plan and sent it to Ping by email. Surely you don't think I would make that decision alone.

It seems like you keep moving your office from one place to another! Settle down!

Well, this move is just down the hall, Smitty. No trucks, elevators, or stairs involved. We took what was available when we moved in and then expanded hodgepodge as more space became available. This space is much better configured with one long hallway down the middle separating the offices and conference rooms from the reception area, kitchen, and file room, and administrative space.
But more importantly, this space has double air conditioning systems and we can control them.
Besides, all this moving helps keep Ping and me young.
