About Flutes and Steamers

Down to 29.  Dropping below 30 seems like an important step.  Ping is soooo ready to come home, but there is still much to be done before she can leave.

Cici has been practicing playing the flute with her braces on and she says it is okay.  Her little marching band at school has doubled in size from last year.  The flute section has grown from 3 to 7 players, so I was teasing Cici that she can be a slacker again.  In China they had so many flute players in Cici's marching band that Cici would sometimes rest instead of playing if she got tired, because no one would know.

We took care of the last of Cici's required vaccinations yesterday, the third in a series of shots.  She never complained about going to get them, but yesterday after the last one, she told me that each one of them hurt very much when they were given.  As we waited to see the doctor, we looked at the photo of Cici that is in her yellow immunization record book.  It is actually a very good picture of her, but she looks so different in that photo than she looks today, and it was only taken in April of last year.  Her hair has grown long and she looks like a young lady now instead of like the young girl in the photo.

When we came home I steamed some dumplings and a Chinese bun stuffed with red bean sauce.  I hope Ping likes the steamer I bought last month as much as I like it.  I use it almost every day because it works so well.  I really need to buy some king crab legs and steam them for Cici.  She doesn't like the hassle of getting the meat out of the shell, but I can do that for her.  But considering how much Ping loves to eat crab, I guess it would be better to wait until she is home before I cook some crab legs.  Come to think of it, that might sell Ping on the steamer.

So burning the candle on both ends of the globe would be a correct statement?

And king crab sounds sooo delicious… why wait for ping when Costco is so close by that you can get some more when Ping arrives?

I think the steamed fish that you previously described still sounds better!

You could always try poultry shears on the crab legs, although one day at the local Chinese restaurant I did see some people cracking the crab legs with their teeth. Just like Daryl Hannah in Splash!

Not a bad idea, Smitty.  I have the long picks or whatever they call them, but they have such sharp prongs that I always seem to end up cutting myself.  Believe it or not my favorite way of slitting the sides of the legs open is to use a salad fork.  I just get one prong inside the shell and turn the fork parallel to the shell, and then it can be easily pushed to the end of the leg and opens the shell very nicely.  I could see using the shears to cut off the joints.

I would usually end up using a fork(and yes I did bend the tines back! ) at said restaurant, but there are crab forks that are kinda oddly shaped. Maybe more like an old military style can opener... I thought about getting one for my crabbing adventures, but I'm too chea... I mean, too thrifty.
