Should Have Bought Two
With the approach of her sweet 16th birthday, I have been watching for little gifts to buy for Cici. The "secret" about her pink laptop case didn't survive until the end of the day after I told Ping about it. Now the girls' story, and they are sticking to it, is that Cici guessed what I had bought for her. All I can do is laugh about it because this is the result that I expected when I told Ping what I had bought. Neither of them can keep a secret.
So I didn't even try to hide the next little gift that I found. I saw it at the mall on Saturday when I took Cici and Yuqian there, and it almost jumped off the shelf at me. This is perfect for Cici, I thought, so I bought it and took it to the car while I waited for the girls. What is this, Papa? She asked when she saw the bag with something inside. Just a little something for your birthday, I told her. She looked at it and talked about it with Yuqian in Chinese, but my impression was that she didn't care for it much. When we got home, she just put the bag on the floor in our home office.
Yesterday when I came home, though, the girls were in our home office watching a movie on the computer. Cici looked at me with a big smile on her face as she showed me the gift I had bought for her. She was using it exactly as I had envisioned it, because she often says she feels cold in our home office. The gift is a soft, pink, light-weight blanket that has over-sized sleeves so it will stay on her body when she is sitting.
Do you think Mama will want one too? I asked Cici. You better ask her, she said as she nodded yes vigorously. I knew I should have bought two.
