Dwindling Days of Summer

I know it is hot and summer is in full swing, but the days are getting shorter.  Have you noticed?  This has been happening for a month now, since the first official day of summer arrived.  A minute a day.  In 37 more minutes, Ping will be home.  Things are so busy at the office that the days just fly past.  It is in the evening and at night that we have time to think about and miss Ping.  Or early in the morning, like now.  Except of course when a client comments at the office about missing Ping's delicious hot tea, the thought of her being gone comes flooding into my mind at the office as well.

Before Ping left, a mysterious pain had developed in her left hip.  It was quite puzzling, and I thought she was just working out too hard at the club.  She eventually figured out that it was when she drove the Beetle that the pain would be very sharp.  If she stayed away from the Beetle, the pain would go away.  Using the clutch to shift gears was the apparent culprit.  So when Ping returns, one of the first orders of business will be to select and buy a different car.

I just might try the Costco auto purchase program in order to avoid the hassle of negotiating a price on a vehicle.  Ping might disagree with that strategy, however, as she might welcome the challenge of negotiating the price.  I guess one way to do it would be to find out what the Costco negotiated price would be for a vehicle that we want to buy, use it as a baseline, and let Ping go at it if she wants to negotiate her own deal.

Without intending to, Cici further cemented in my mind that we need to replace the Beetle.  As we drove to Chinatown last weekend, she made an off the cuff comment about how Mama drives the Beetle very slowly and other drivers honk at her from behind.  Because I know that Ping is an excellent driver, that tells me that she doesn't have much confidence when she is driving the Beetle.  The Beetle doesn't qualify as a Clunker for Cash, so we will have to decide how to sell it.  Maybe Craig's List.

Well, we will need another car anyway when Cici goes to college, so we might as well take the plunge.
