She is my daughter; I can prove it

State of Texas
Certification of Vital Record
Department of State Health Services
Vital Statistics Unit
China Certificate of Live Birth Birth Number 27197A

Child's name:  Angela Tiajiao Solomon

Mother's name:  Ping's information

Father's name:  My information

The raised State Seal of Texas is at the bottom of the birth certificate.  All of the birth information as far as time, date, place, hospital, is all accurate.  The only difference between this birth certificate and Cici's Chinese birth certificate is that her name has been changed, and my name is listed as her birth father.

This birth certificate arrived in the mail today.  I showed it to Cici and she got a big smile on her face.  See, you really are my daughter, I told her, and patted her shoulder.

It fills me with pride to have this birth certificate, but I must admit that I am quite surprised that Texas would issue it.  My guess is that the "A" in the birth number stands for adopted, so perhaps that is how they justify engaging in a little revisionist history.

I think I will carry a copy of this birth certificate with me at all times and put it in the face of people who are skeptical when I tell them that Cici is my daughter.

Glad to hear you got one for your daughter too, Michael.  Cici looks so cute now walking around with her braces on her teeth, and she certainly treats me like her Papa.  The minute I start looking at tools in a store, for example, she grabs me and steers me away from them.  You have everything you need already, Papa, she says.  And she won't let me go anywhere near a store that sells paintings.  She scolded me for buying the gold Buddha and the new cookware pieces when she wasn't with me, but I teased her that she shouldn't have been sleeping so long that day.

I could probably scan it and insert it here, but I don't think I want to have it on line.  That gives you a good excuse to come see us in Houston, Smitty.

I wouldn't put it online either.
