Bite on This

They don't hurt at all, Papa, Cici told me on Wednesday late afternoon after her braces had been put on her teeth.  That is great, I said, but with the continuous pressure, you will likely begin to feel some pain.

By bedtime, she was beginning to hurt.  She didn't want to take anything for the pain.  I left her sleeping yesterday morning, knowing that as long as she was asleep she would feel no pain.  She didn't eat anything all day because of the discomfort with her teeth, but her face brightened when I suggested that she could eat some oatmeal without it causing pain.  She selected two of the small bags of oatmeal and we prepared a bowl of oatmeal for her.

Now let's go see if we can find a new modem, I suggested.  Our modem had stopped working sometime on Wednesday for no apparent reason, and we were tired of having no Internet access.  Usually Cici has little interest in getting out of the house, but she quickly dressed so she could go with me.  We found a modem, though not the kind we needed.  I bought it anyway just to have something we could use while I ordered what we really need.  For some reason, the software refused to load on my desktop computer. I tried for hours.  The CD wouldn't even spin as it is supposed to do.  I went to bed frustrated.  Cici was already asleep again, but I know she was disappointed.

About 6:00 this morning an idea came to me.  I tried to load the software on my laptop and it loaded and installed without a problem.  I left it there for Cici to use today when she wakes up, because I left her sleeping again.

Now I just need to figure out something that Cici will enjoy eating.  Something she doesn't have to chew on.  I had cut small pieces from a nectarine for her to eat on Wednesday night, but biting on them hurt her teeth, she said.  Maybe noodles would be a good choice as a break from the oatmeal idea. I know some of you wore braces.  Any ideas?

Nonfat yogurt, fruit smoothies, some sort of vegetable juice extractor or vegetable juices. Things that don't have to be chewed, but are nutritious. I found that chewing anything, even noodles was a problem when the braces were new or recently tightened.
