What's In the Air?

The answer to the question is:  a lot of humidity.  Yesterday Cici and I endured a sweltering day in the office with no air conditioning.  She kept insisting that she wasn't too hot, but I was sweating.  We had too many things to do so we couldn't just leave.  I bought her a 64 ounce fountain drink (sprite) that she nursed through the heat of the day.  Finally around 3:00 they fixed the problem and the air conditioning kicked on.  What a difference!

If you are counting the days with us, we are nearing the half way mark of Ping's absence, which will be Monday.  Ping has been working hard.  She said they took down one of the interior walls at our new home this week.  She had shown me on the blue prints before she left what her intentions were to open the place up and make it more comfortable for us.  We have some good friends in Guangzhou who own a home not too far from our new home, and they have loaned their home to us to use as a base of operations during our construction work.  Ping and her cousin and her cousin's husband are able to stay there (they came from Shandong province to help us) and save the travel time back and forth to our other home in Guangzhou each day.

I bet it is also hot working in our new home without air conditioning units, but I am sure they have the windows open.  Our place is on the top floor of the building, so there should be some breezes coming through to help with the working conditions.  This construction effort is a good example of how families help each other in China.  Ping's cousin and her husband own many real estate properties and are quite experienced at supervising the installation of wiring and piping, which is what is being done now in our home.  The biggest concern is the be sure that the best quality wire and pipe that we paid for is used rather than cheap substitutes.

While Ping takes care of that construction work, I will take Cici to the orthodontist today for the installation of her braces.  We received a post card reminder from Cici's school yesterday that by July 15 we must make our final decisions about what classes Cici will take in the coming school year.  We will soon know if playing the flute with braces is going to be a realistic possibility or not, which will impact our decision about band.  I have talked about the issue with Ping, but she trusts me to make the right decision when all the facts are known.  I trust Ping to choose the best color for our walls.

Isn't that what being a family is all about?

Be careful of the heat! If you pass out because of it, all that work that needs to be done, will be for naught!
