Taking a Piece of Texas and China to Rhode Island
So what am I doing up at this hour? It isn't even 4:00 a.m. yet and I have been up for a good while. I am drinking coffee, but you can bet that Cici is still sleeping soundly.
Well, you see, my son just graduated from the Masters Degree program at Rhode Island School of Design. He lived in Texas since before he was a year old, and his two years in Rhode Island were quite a change for him. While there, he met a native Rhode Islander who became his fiancee. She came back to Texas with him for the past ten days. It was so different for her that she kept saying that she felt like she was in a movie.
Yesterday she asked if she could take some pictures of our home, and then she photographed the many Chinese things in our home, as well as things related to Texas. Like my cowboy hats and boots. She wants to do a show and tell back in Rhode Island with her family. It is hard for Cici and me to imagine living in a State where you can cross the State line in any direction in a half hour or less, with the ocean being the State line on one side.
Now I never knew much about Rhode Island, though I spent a week there one day, so I looked it up. Turns out that little Rhode Island was the first State to sign the Declaration of Independence, though the last to sign the U.S. Constitution at that time in history. I found out that its real name is Rhode Island and Providence Plantations. Why did I never learn that in school?
Anyway, my son and his fiancee will be here at 5:00 this morning to return our Beetle. Then I will drive them to the airport to catch their flight back to Rhode Island. Cici said goodbye to them last night, because she knew for sure that she would not want to wake up at 5:00 this morning for that purpose. Ping is sorry that she wasn't here to play hostess, but there will be a next time.
Hey, it is 4:10. I wonder if the morning newspaper has been delivered?
