Letting Her Sleep In

Every day during the summer so far, after one week to do what she wished every day, Cici has dutifully risen at 7:00 a.m. to depart for the office with me half an hour later.  I know she would much prefer to sleep longer, so this morning I am letting her do that while I take care of a few client matters that I can do from home.

Once we arrive at the office, though, it will be gu zheng time.  Her music arrived by email yesterday from Ping, and it is waiting for her to play when we arrive.  I love the sound of that instrument, and it is fascinating to watch her fingers and hands dancing over the strings, coaxing out the unusual blend of sounds.

Yesterday Cici and I looked through the many pictures that Ping sent to us.  Pictures of the building and grounds around our new home in Tianhe District in Guangzhou.  It is in a quiet enclave; a beautifully landscaped compound with decorative wrought iron gates.  Everything we need is in convenient walking distance, Ping tells us.  Even the hospital is just a ten minute walk.

If you do a Google search for Tianhe District Guangzhou, there is a beautiful photo of the skyline on Wikipedia and a couple of other sites.  You can see the sports center that was built for the National Games some years back.  The U.S. Consulate is also located in this district, as are many of the universities in Guangzhou.  Cici has talked about perhaps working at the U.S. Consulate there some day.

But the extra sleep time has about expired, so it is time to awaken my little musician.
