Making Do

So how are we doing, Cici and I?

We are making do as best we can with Ping in China.  Actually today Ping told Cici on QQ that she was going to Macau with one of our good friends.  She didn't say it, but we know this is a shopping trip as much as anything.  I know she missed being able to spend time with long time friends, so I hope she enjoys her time with them.

As for Cici, I have tried to give her a few good things to enjoy.  Tonight I stir fried some choice beef short ribs that I cut into bit sized pieces with some portobello mushrooms.  I also stir fried some snap peas and some green onions right behind the meat and mushrooms.  The flavors mixed nicely.  The rest of the fried rice that I made yesterday followed these delicacies into the wok.  We dined like kings.  But we knew Ping would have loved what we were eating, and we missed her.

Today I heard back from the sophomore English teacher at Cici's school.  The two books that have been assigned for summer reading are Black Like Me and Puddn' Head Wilson.  Say what? Cici must have been thinking.  We will just have to do the best we can.  I ordered the books today from Amazon and they should be here by Friday.  She gets to relax this week, but next week it is back to work!

I have been reading the newly released Shanghai Girls.  I didn't want to read it because I knew I wouldn't like it. Just because of its name.  But Lisa See surprised me with a good story.  If you haven't read it, I highly recommend it.

In the meantime, I heard from my publisher today, right on schedule.  I was given a report on their progress, and the schedule for the next 75 days, but in the schedule they gave me 15 days to do my part each time.  I will turn it around in 24 hours each time because that is the way I work.  Maybe that will shorten time to publication by a month.

The day is dying next to me on our little patio/atrium.  I watered Ping's flower gardens already and fed our betta.  He also misses Ping.  I can tell.  He isn't nearly as happy when I feed him.  Cici has her Hello Kitty bath rugs out on the patio drying out after she washed them today.  I can see them through the floor to ceiling window next to where I am sitting.

And that reminds me.  I need to tell Cici that I mailed in the application for her certificate of citizenship today.  It will arrive at the USCIS office in Houston tomorrow.  I also forgot to tell Ping that when I emailed her earlier this evening.

I have an idea.  I think I will tell Ping that if she wants to know what is happening in her home while she is in China, she needs to read about here.  Then I won't need to write separate emails to her.  Well, except maybe for the sweet nothings that she likes to hear.
