The Study Mate
Nope, this post is not about me, despite its title.
Cici's study habits have evolved. When she faced final exams at the end of her first semester in high school, we went through an intense time together, knowing how difficult they would be for her. This time as she studies for final exams, her work has gone to the dogs.
Well, one dog. It is a white and black stuffed dog that is almost as big as Cici. I bought that dog for her and it waited patiently on her bed for months before she arrived in America. It keeps her company in her bedroom, and serves at times as her favorite resting place. She has it on the floor near one of her windows now as she studies for finals. She opens the wooden blinds on the windows of her bedroom so it is flooded with light, sits on the floor with her dog, leans back against a pillow that is strategically placed against her chest of drawers, spreads her books and papers around her and the dog, and studies away.
So far Cici has not needed any help from me as she has studied for finals. That is remarkable in the abstract, but consider for example the focus of the final exam in her English class. The Odyssey and Romeo and Juliet are the focus of the final exam. That she can now handle olde English on her own is amazing to me.
And guess who is asking me if I know what her summer reading requirements are for her Sophomore English class.
