It Just Keeps Getting Better

One might think that the biggest news of the day would be about our book signing event this evening.

As it turned out, we received some news about Cici that topped the book signing event.  The Academic Dean from Cici's school came to the the book signing and surprised us with something that we never expected.  Our beautiful daughter, Cici, was selected Student of the Month at her school because of her academic achievements.  Ping and I are so proud of her.  She was at the book signing with us all evening, sitting at a table at the back of the room, studying for two tests that she will take tomorrow.

But we kept interrupting Cici to get her signature on books as people purchased them.  We had an incredible, unbelievable turnout for our book signing.  It was like waves of people coming through all evening, and they started coming 45 minutes before the scheduled start time.  FOX 26 news showed up with a camera and filmed the event for a while.  Then they took Ping and Cici and me to one side of the room for an interview.  They said that our story will air on the 9:00 news and the 10:30 news this evening, and will be posted on the FOX 26 website for the next two years with a link that we can send to others to view the event and the interview.

Univision, which owns Spanish speaking TV and radio stations in Houston was also there.  They want to interview us, translate it to Spanish, and put our story on the air.

Ping was her usual beautiful self, and was positively glowing.  Many of her Chinese girlfriends came to see us and bought our book.  I think they have a lot of admiration for Ping and our family.

The nightmare of every author, from what I have read, is that no one will show up for their book signing events.  If just 5 books are sold, it is considered to be quite a successful event unless the author is a celebrity.  I am not a celebrity author, so all we had to offer to the public as a draw was our story.  That was enough.  People came.  People stayed.  People loved our story.  People bought books.  We are so pleased and happy.

Well Lee, I would say I am surprised, but it would be a lie. With your incredible story, and all the support of friends and contacts, it is no wonder it was so successful. Congratulations, and especially to Cici!

Congratulations Lee on your debut book signing event. Quite a crowd that you had there. Off course holding the event at one of Houston’s top rated wine tasting establishments didn’t have anything to do with it. I should have known that only one glass of wine would send my Chinese wife on a spinning tour with the rest of you guys. Nice crowd, good wine and a fun time had by all – except little Alex who kept bugging daddy for a hamburger and fries!

Hey, thanks for being there, Andrew.

We were so busy all night that we didn't have time to even sample a glass of wine.  When we were leaving, there was a musical group near the front door of the place playing some good tunes.  If we hadn't needed to get Cici home to finish preparing for her tests the next day it would have been nice to sit and enjoy the music and a glass of wine.
