Making Plans
No one said to Cici, clean your room. In fact we never have to say that to her. Last night she cleaned it in preparation for her friends spending the night with her this evening. She takes a lot of pride in keeping her room and bathroom clean. She scrubs her shoes and puts them out to dry, always keeping them spotless. She keeps her clothes "cabinet tidy," as Ping describes them. The clothes that hang in her closet are kept lovingly neat and organized. Never have I seen a teenager who is so good about being neat.
But wait, no one ever says to Cici that she needs to do the laundry and put away the clothes - for the whole family. No one ever says to her that she needs to do her homework for school. She accepts responsibility and it sure makes a difference. Now she will step up in Ping's absence this summer to run our home and our office. Cici will learn a few things, use her English in a business setting, and add something to her resume for college.
Yesterday we met with the Academic Dean at Cici's school. Cici and I had roughed out a three year class schedule, but there were things we didn't know enough about, so we scheduled the meeting. So she will take algebra II and geometry together in her sophomore year. In her junior year she will take pre-calculus and statistics, and finally in her senior year she will take calculus. She will take Web Master I and II courses next year also. That will be a nice bit of knowledge for her to acquire. For the sciences we will study chemistry, physics and either physics II or anatomy.
On Sunday, May 24, we will take Cici to one of her favorite restaurants where they have a huge sushi bar, with many other good things on the buffet. Ping planned the date, because it will be exactly one year since we arrived in the United States. We will celebrate that one year anniversary, celebrate Cici's adoption and name change, and celebrate Cici's U.S. citizenship. Come to think of it, we better celebrate our wedding anniversary, Cici's 16th birthday, and my birthday, because Ping will be gone for those occasions.
But Ping will still be with us, I am sure. She knows we can survive without her, but she also knows we will miss her a lot. Thank goodness for webcams, QQ, Microsoft Messenger, and the Internet. We will make it through the summer.

Yes Lee, QQ, Skype, and Webcams are our friends
Is there any doubt why you get on so famously?

Just learned that Ping must connect up the Internet when she arrives in Guangzhou. That means a trip to a government office, I have learned, because the government controls the Internet in China.

Jumping Jiminy Crickets! That's quite a load for Angela to take! I have a feeling she can handle it, but goodness that's a load!
